Gasoline Alley

A Premier Stop on the QE2: Redefining Gas Station Convenience

Case Study:

Elevating Customer Experience at Petro-Canada, Gasoline Alley

Client: Petro-Canada
Location: Red Deer, Alberta
Industry: Retail / Gas Station and Convenience Store

Situated midway between Edmonton and Calgary on the QE2 Highway, Gasoline Alley is a competitive hub for travelers needing to refuel, grab a bite, or take a break. The challenge for the new Petro-Canada station was to distinguish itself amidst fierce competition and become the go-to spot for commuters.

Mark Walsh & Associates collaborated with architects and designers to create a standout Petro-Canada station focused on superior customer experience. The design emphasized an inviting open concept with wide traffic lanes for easy navigation, aiming to increase spending by making customers feel relaxed. Innovations included:

  • A non-elevated cash counter for personal interaction.
  • A stylized coffee station for a premium experience.
  • LED lighting to enhance product presentation.
  • Oversized, touchless restrooms with a waterfall feature for a clean, tranquil impression.

The redesigned Petro-Canada quickly became a favorite stop for QE2 travelers, boasting sales well above average. This success highlights the impact of thoughtful design and customer-centric features in differentiating a business in a competitive market.
