Despite being nearly 30 years old, this Husky location 20 miles north of Grande Prairie was still doing fairly decent volumes. Yet the owners realized it was finally time to modernize the site to appeal to the changing marketplace.
In the old store, the cash area was poorly defined. Rather than orderly lines, customers approached the tills in a haphazard manner that wasn’t conducive to efficiency. Products were displayed in a somewhat random manner.
Keeping the doors open throughout the renovation was the top priority. Given the need to retile the entire floor, this would be a tall order.
The store was doing well, but Mark Walsh felt it could do even better with a few simple changes to the floorplan.
Mark’s revised floorplan included a detailed merchandise layout that placed product categories in the section of the store that would result in the greatest sales volumes. The awkward cash desks were completely redesigned to promote an orderly flow of customers – with a goal of enhance the purchasing experience.
By carefully staging the tiling with the other upgrades, Mark was true to his word and the store remained open the whole time. The revitalized store is indeed outperforming the old store. Most important of all, the store’s loyal customers have given the refresh a big thumbs up.
